The mission of the General Sub-directorate of the Spanish State Archives in the Ministry of Culture is to conserve, protect and disseminate the Spanish documentary heritage, transmitting the collective memory to the future, promoting the management of electronic documents and creating technologies and cultural contents of quality.
It directly manages 9 state-owned archives, as well as two centers: the Documentary Reproduction Service (SRD) and the Archive Documentary Information Centre (CIDA).
The General Sub-Directorate initiated this project to strengthen cooperation ties with other European institutions and therewith tackle some of the key new challenges faced by the archives in Europe
