Clean Technology Centre visit Cork City and County Archives

On the 12th February 2025, Colman McCarthy from the Clean Technology Centre, Munster Technological University, visited Brian McGee, Cork City and County Archivist as part of his research for the SAGA Project.

The Cork City and County Archives building was constructed in accordance with BS 5454 (2000), Recommendations for the storage and exhibition of archival documents, and was opened in 2006.  It is the first stand-alone archives building in the history of the State. It houses over six kilometres of material, dating back almost 400 years. 

There are three small repositories (strongrooms) and one large one. All are air conditioned (A/C).

 There are approximately 60,000 items on the online catalogue of which 6-7,000 are digital images. To date 900 collections out of a total of 1,500 have been catalogued. There are c.800 visitors online weekly.
